A squeal and a crash stopped them. Even Sherlock, squinting at his phone's screen in the dim light of sunset, looked up to the intersection. For a moment he paused in the search, but then his gaze turned down, thumbs twitching once more. Weeks of investigation to follow, John thought, and he had probably seen and erased everything. Green light, red light, lazy brake job, drifting too far right, speeding and unheeding until too late. John elbowed his way to the center of the crowd. Only one person had been pulled clear yet, her lips trembling.

"I'm cold," she said.
