Only just caught this, but I loved it. Holmes at his most self-righteous, but ultimately not completely incorrect, Watson torn between what is and what perhaps ought to be, reality and fantasy colliding. These lines:

The newspapers are bound to describe what happened—”

“Yes. They are not free to do anything else.”

Oh boy, how one wishes that were true. These days, they seem to feel free to describe just about anything they damn well like. Sigh.
